Muncie Noise in First
My Muncie (71 M-22) makes a noise in first gear that sounds like there is a tooth missing. It dosen't always make the noise , most of the time it is there . If I pull the shifter back a little before I let out the clutch it sometimes is gone . I had the tranny out and inspected and could see nothing wrong internally . I know that M22s are noisey !
Anyone care to diagnose this for me?

I'd have to get my gear head on , but off the top "pulling the shifter back a little" will move the slider forward. The slider has a bevel for clearance. I'll have to think about it for a min.

The reverse idler in the main case is very close to the 1-2 slider when 1st gear is engaged, and I have had noise complaints and seen wear marks on the idler gear from the 1-2 slider, that could be your noise...
About 10 years age I started clearancing all the reverse idlers on all the Muncie's I rebuild...
