The '63-'67 Corvettes are known as C2, or second generation Corvette. That's why people keep telling you to go ask on the C2 forum, 'cuz your Corvette is a C2. This is the C3 forum. C3 is what we call '68-'82 Corvettes. Your Corvette is not a C3. The real C2 nuts hang out on the C2 forum. They are the ones who would have the best chance of answering your question, not the guys who hang out on the C3 forum, which is for '68-82 Corvettes, which aren't what you have, because yours is a '63, which is a C2, which is not a C3. I don't know a whole lot about C2 Corvettes, exept that they are really, really cool looking and way out of my price range. Sorry,

Scott

Default 63 corvettes with factory air

In 1963 the only way you can order a corvette with factory air is if you had the 250 HP or 300 HP motor.

NO air conditioning option was offered on a 340 HP or 360 HP motors.

Air conditioning was available after April of1963 so if you have an earlier car it is not a factory air car.

Thanks

Air conditioning, like the Powerglide, was not available with solid lifter engines.

I have a 77 & a 63 SWC. I found a company that sells a retro kit that looks like the C2 car came with A/C.
I am putting my cash together to have this for next spring as when I took out my 63 this past July. It was in the high 90's every day and it was tough to drive in. Mine is a 327/300 all stock, so I was told that if I find all stock interior vents and switches (the kit has them too) at a swap meet I should be good at a show.

Good Luck

Good Luck Showing a `63 with air parts found at a flea market.

Just as well to use the add on kit.

I think it's cool that you've reconstructed a 'factory' system for the car. It will likely cool satisfactorily and will not have that 'aftermarket' appearance.

Default Factory air

Dear Bobs

If your car is a 340 HP car then it is not a factory air car,.

I doubt you can find aftermarket parts for " factory air car" form any company .You can find hoses and other small items.

The air cleaner on a factory air cars has a different opening than a regular non air car. There is a ONE YEAR MADE only compressor bracket that cost over $3000.00 if you can even find one ( remember they only made 278 air cars in 1963. The compressor is also hard to find it has a metal tag NOT a sticker that says Frigidaire and has a 6550133 # on it. Altenator is different as well.

Also the vents under the driver and passenger side are impossible to find as you basically need them out of a wrecked or junked 63 factory air car.

Also the battery is located on the DRIVER side where on non air cars the battery is on the passanger side. The drier is also hard to come by.

The car below is an original 63 air coupe, that belongs to a customer of mine. It is a legitimate 63 air conditioning, power steering, power brake, 327/300, 4 speed coupe. He restored the car 15-20 years ago and use to drive it regularly (2-3 days a week). Which is why it's not a perfect "show" restoration, and is also why he wanted an air car.

The 53 in the background is his also, it's VIN 15!

If you can get a factory drawing you can have a bracket made.
