I have a whole new brake system. Including all new lines, Calipers and Master Cyl. My Buddy says I should gravity bleed the lines first and then pump the pedal to fine tune them. As not to look like a complete rookie to my friend I said "good idea". So What the heck is gravity bleeding and is he correct or is he full of crap?

first you open all your bleeder screws. Then fill up the MC might want to put a pie pan or something on the floor or use some clean rubber hose on each bleeder screw down to a pan or jar to keep your calapers clean. Then let gravity pull the fluid to your calapers. Then you will have to pump and pump. This proceedure just helps get fluid in the system without pumping. Make sure your MC is bled before you start.
Gravity bleeding is opening one bleeder and letting gravity do the work. Be sure the master cylinder doesn't leak down. As far as your buddy's comment, I believe it's whatever works for you. Some guys pump, some use gravity, some a vacuum bleeder, some a home made pressure bleeder, etc. Whatever works.
