Looking at a budget build here....
What casting numbers would I need to look for on a set of used Iron Vortecs?
How much would the iron heads weigh and what weight savings would be gained by using Aluminum?
Look at a set of Engine Quest Vortecs. I don't remember the casting number right now. They measure between 180 to 185 cc intake runners, cut for 1.25 or 1.44 springs, ready for screw-in-studs. They flowed 235 cfm out of the box. I just put 2.02/1.60 valves in mine, they came with 1.94/1.50. Working on ports further right now. The bare castings were $190 ea in 2007. They also come assembled.
So on an 062 casting, what would the standard valve sizes, combustion chamber and runner size be?
I think I have seen them with 1.94/1.5 valves, 64cc and 170cc runners.
I know the 64cc chambers will help with upping the compression but what about valve sizes and runners? How will they affect the build?
Im looking to up the power from stock but not looking to make any huge numbers. I generally cruise about with some long distance driving. The odd spirited run but nothing serious.
There's not enough difference in factory castings to worry about. The 906's have press-fit hardened seats and the 062's are induction hardened. Other than that, they're identical.

Thanks for that.
I see some after market vortecs are available with 2.02/1.6 valves and larger runners. How would they affect the build? Are larger valves and runners required for a mild build?
For what you're doing the standard Vortecs will be plenty. I've run 12.53 at 106 mph with them on my engine, so they won't be a liabilty for your build since you're only building a cruiser.
