I put a 5 speed Tremec OD in mine and now have a T56 6 speed with 2 overdrives in it. Ihave installed many 5 speed ODs in difeerent Vettes. Which one would you like info on there are a bunch of options. Also automatic ODs are common.
If you search you'll find a bunch of info on 700R4 swaps. If you search on my username you'll find a couple.
I'm currently considering a 5-speed manual swap. Seems to be a little more friendly on the wallet.
If you don't have a lot of HP/torque, a nicely rebuilt 200-4R will swap with a THM-400 pretty easily. No driveshaft change, but I think you still need a saddle-type yoke for the transmission output (different journal diameter for the 400). The periperals (T.V. cable/bracket and tranny pan brackets) are also required and can be found in conversion kits from some of the tranny rebuilders.
it the tremec 5 speed a drop in. That is, if you have a th400 already. Is there a need for an adapter between the bell and trans and will the same driveshaft work?
The easiest/friendly one to install is the 200 4r, and you should be able to locate a core and rebuild it yourself....
Use a TRANS GO shift kit, no other.....you can find parts off ebay and even converters.....use a ten vane front pump, leave NO section of the tranny together, it must be taken down and cleaned completely....
total cost should be less than 600 bux.....
need a thm350 vette output yoke for the driveshaft you will not need to shorten or modify....the tranny tail shaft should set right on your cross support directly....use your present shifter setup....
