How do you check/adjust the neutral safety swit on a 69 350/auto?

Disconnect one of the battery wires; remove the 'release' **** on the shifter; remove the spring; remove the shifter ball; remove the top plate on the tranny console.

The neutral start switch (NSS) is mounted to the right side of the shifter mechanism. It is a switch that should only make continuity when the shift selector is in Neutral and Park. And, it should NOT have continuity in any of the other positions (no matter how much you wiggle the shifter around when in those ranges).

Find the connector for the NSS switch...I think it is two purple wires. Disconnect it from the harness. Connect an ohmmeter to the two connector terminals. Put key in ignition and turn to ON position (battery is still disconnected). Shift through all the gear ranges, neutral and park; wiggle the shifter around in every range. The NSS should always make connection anywhere in Park & Neutral...and it should never make connection in the other ranges. You can adjust it by loosening the screws at the ends of the switch and repositioning the switch on the shifter tower.

Note: DO NOT attempt to make this adjustment with the battery power connected. If the NSS isn't set right, and you try to start the car when 'in range', you may just power your way through the garage door!

They should all be very similar (if not identical). Check your wiring diagram for wiring colors. Same process should be used to check them out.

12 purple is common to all.
Some have variations depending on year, these should be very close.
