OK, after reading numerous threads, I understand where the trans. seal goes. Also material options. But, what is the best/easiest way to install? I can see where it goes from the top. Haven't looked from underneath. Don't want to remove the console, or anything else except maybe a few top engine accessories.I don't have any future plans to pull the engine or trans.
If you are talking about the transmission tailshaft seal, it has to be done from the bottom of the car. If you are talking about the transmission front seal, the transmission has to be removed.

Sorry, should have been more specific. I'm talking about the foam seal on top of the bell housing,to keep engine heat from entering the console.
I just put in a new dist on thursday and while it was out, I shoved my tunnel insulation down in there from the front. Took a few minutes. YOu may be able to do it with by just pulling the top of the dist and still have room to do it. Really helped get rid of some of the heat in my 79.
The easiest way to install it would be to drop the rear transmission mount a bit so you can get enough roome to stick it in place. It should fit with the 'thick' side on the left and positioned so that the front face of the seal is just behind the cooler-in and cooler-out fittings on the right side of the transmission. You really don't need any glue to hold it, although I sprayed the front face of my seal with some undercoating material to make it more weather-proof before I installed it.
