I'm replacing the water pump on my '75 because the bearings are going bad. I ordered a replacement from Advance Auto but it doesn't seem to fit. Looks like the shaft is too short. When I put the pulley on it rubs against the housing. I checked it against the original and it's about 1/2 inch shorter. Why would this be and where can I get the right replacement?

The correct pump for a 75 has Block to pulley face of hub = 5.795" with a 3/4" pilot shaft.
Compare that to your original working pump.
Advance can get the correct one.
You just got a defective pump, someone screwed up pressing the hub on.
Order a heavy duty from Advance, Autozone or NAPA and don't paint it until you check it for correct.
They are all around 50 to 80 bucks for new.
