Default First Ride after 17 years

After 17 years of being parked and a lot of work over the past 8 months I finally took out my '69 vert out Thursday for its first ride in 17 years. She ran OK and I know I need to adjust timing but I ran into a curious noise. About 5 miles into the ride, I noticed a clicking noise that seemed to be associated with the clutch. In gear at cruising speed it sounded like someone put a baseball card into the spokes of my bicycle. In neutral the sound disappeared. Parked it until today and I could not replicate the sound. I didn't drive it today due to time constraints (that work thing is a pain in my ...) and I was wondering if anyone has any ideas. I'll get it back on the road in a day or two.
Any ideas on the sound? Is it detrimental? Can it be fixed?
Thanks Guys and Gals!

Could be debris in the tranny case, or rear end. It HAS sat for a while...

Check the harmonic balancer, it may have moved and riding on the timing chain cover bolts. It is easy to check with a light.
Good luck on that noise and post of picture of your ride.
Great to hear a 17 year first ride.
