I work on race cars. They all use a push button starter and one or more toggle switches.
Directions: You need a Vette wiring diagram for your year model with wiring color codes. You would put a toggle on ignition power and push botton on the starter sel.
Or just get under the hood and cut and paste the posi. to both
I would like to install a push button starter in my car and just was wondering if anyone knows where some good instructions are?
What year ? Push button in the cabin or in the engine compartment or both ?
Permanent, not caring about cutting original harness or something less permanent and reversible ?
The S terminal on the starter solenoid is the key,the S terminal just needs 12v via your push-button to fire the starter. 12 gauge wire and a good button is a must.
Funny, We got away from that in the 40s and now its the rage. Frankly I dont understand why you would want to have to use two switches to start the engine.

Hmmm .... Hand cranks ? Maybe I'll ride that wave to Millionaire-ism.

Roger, The answer is more like your key switch has more than one switch also. Two is about the minimum. You have a run (ignition on) and if you rotate the key farther you have (start) where you kick on the starter.
I used to have a tunnel rammed street rod. It had a whole panel of switches and a start push button. You had an order to turn them on. Like fuel pump on, power to coil and MSD ignition, switch on ignition retard for starting, push the starter and fire it up. When it was up and runing turn off ignition retard, as the temp came up turn on the electric water pump, as temp came up during driving... turn on the raidiator electric fan
This is something that I've been wondering as well.

Sounds simple enough - is there a way to wire it up where you still have to have a key in the ignition for security reasons? (street driven vehicle)

well the ignition key will give power to let the car run....the push button just energizes the starter and maybe a non ballast circuit to the coil if its non hei...

I have always wondered that myself, seems like a step backwards.
Flaming River makes a steering column with a push button on it. You just stick the fob that goes with it in the dash, push the button and fire it up. The fob also unlocks the doors.
Not following you.
The way I'm picturing it is you turn the key on the column to ON and then you push a button to engage the starter. Wheel would unlock.
Is that where you were going ?
