I recently bought a 79 Vette it is my first. I am having an issue with the AC. When I turn it on the air comes out of the heater vents instead of the ones in the dash. When I first got the car 5 days ago it would work properly half the time now it just comes out the heater vents. I don't think it is a weak vacuum problem because the headlights pop right up. I am thinking it is the Control Vacuum Valve. If I am correct in my diagnosis how difficult is it to get to the valve. I am assuming it is behind the dash console or under the shift console. Any help would be appreciated.
Usually the vacuum valve under the console. Not too hard actually. Just remove the side carpet panels and remove the valve. Fix the broken pivot rivet and it will work again.
My 82 did that recently. Looking everywhere under the hood, I noticed I snapped a small hard vacuum line disappearing into the firewall. Sliced it with a piece of rubber tubing and now a/c out the top vents again. I remember accidentally pulling is out several years ago and as soon as I saw the problem, know what to do.

I saw that little line and that it goes into the firewall I figured that it was for AC vacuum it looks good in the engine compartment so if it is messed up it is on the inside. Too hot out there right now to mess with anything though. I just remembered something that line and a bigger softer line that goes into the firewall at the same place are connected to the carb while the headlight circuit is attached to the manifold. Could something possibly be blocking it?
