77- alternator to battery
I was going to run a new thicker gauge red wire from the alternator to the battery (upgrading to 100 amp alternator one day) and was curious if the stock red wire is linked to anything else. I was just going to either add the new wire along with the stock wire or just use the new wire instead.....

I recently ran a new wire from the alt., to the battery. I have an '81, but I think the stock wires are the same for these years. The wire runs down under the brake master cyl., and into the frame traveling to the rear frame kick-up, out a hole, and then into the battery compartment. When I removed the stock wire from the frame, there was only one factory splice. I don't know why it's spliced, perhaps for ease of installing it. It's crimped/soldered, taped, and has plastic conduit the length of the frame. I ran 2 gauge battery cable and had to splice the cable in the same place, as I couldn't find a battery cable long enough at the time. I crimped/soldered, taped, put in in some new conduit, ran it back in the frame.
A big thanks to the fella's in this thread, that hipped me to making sure it was fused correctly, and also putting larger ground wires everywhere.
