Cam recommendation from CompCams
Tim said I should go with either the 268H 12-210-2, or the 270H 12-211-2. He also recommended that I check my valve springs for binding, and said that their 981-16 valve springs would work best. He also indicated that CompCams prefers orders to be placed for their products through a local retailer. I'm not ready just yet to pull the engine, but when I do I think I'll order the Magnum 270H and the 981-16 springs (just to be safe) through Schucks.

I've got the XE-262. In Auto Shop I measured the old stock springs and the new Comp Cams springs 981's...long story short. You WILL need the new springs. I can give you messures and all that if you would like. :cheers:

I have exactly that combination - the 270H and the 981-16 springs in a "stock" '71 engine. I topped it with a Weiand Stealth and a Holley 4150. Really jams from 1500 on up. I need to add a higher stall converter, though. While the stock one works, the big cam leaves very little at the extreme low end. I would guess a 2200-2400 stall would work. I have 3.36 gears and an automatic. I don't know if you have a local dealer - I happen to live ten miles from Summit :D where I picked up all my stuff.
