Default Coil voltage

How much voltage should I read at the positive side of the coil with my ignition key "on". 69 427 points.

Assuming you have points, with the car not running, you should see either something around 6 or 12 volts depending on whether or not the points are open. If the car is running you will get the average of these, and therefore should see between 9-10 volts.

Don't be surprised if you see 12 volts. The resistor wire is there to limit amperage , not voltage.

EDIT:
Found this thread, this should answer your more in depth questions.
