Hey, man, I'm just pulling your leg!! Your engine's fine........probably. D'oh, there I go again, with the leg-pulling!

Hate to be a downer as always, but my experience resembles what you say above. Fan belt breaks on the highway (ac removed so no backup belt) and by the time i shut it off its up to 280. Put a new belt on and everything seems normal for a month or 2 then all of sudden it starts eating coolant. The aluminum head tends to lift in the center losing its clamping force. The gasket blows between the middle cylinders.

As stated above, to be sure a pressure test should be done.

Better send that motor to me to check it out... if you dont hear back from me you know its running good

Get rid of those fan controllers and make one yourself. When I saw that there was smoke coming from under my hood, and a small FIRE consuming my fan controller, I knew it was time to build on the right way.

Mine is very simple and consists of:
2 Hella 40A headlight relays
2 weather-tight 10 gauge in line fuse holders
1 195* temperature switch
and some 10 gauge wire to go from the alternator to the relays, then from the relays to the fans, and then from the fans to the frame (ground)
Racing, cruising, and beach traffic... Never had one issue.

If you want, I can look up my part numbers and make a quick wiring diagram.

Ohhhhh! Aluminum heads, ehhhh? Well, I musta missed that part, because now I have to say, I guess I wasn't pulling your leg. Aluminum heads on a cast iron block that has overheated? You may have warped a head. Damn. Double damn!! What really sucks is that they may very well be perfectly fine, but ya just can't tell for sure without taking them off. I think I would just keep an eye on it and not take any long trips in it for awhile, see what happens. Keep an eye out for signs of a blown head gasket; check the oil before and after driving it, look for oil with the look and consistency of a milkshake. Pop the radiator cap off and check the coolant level before driving (don't remove the cap when the engine is hot, OK? ), you can't trust the reservoir. Watch the temp gauge like a hawk. And last but not least, spin around three times, face the east, and kill a chicken. Maybe, just maybe, everything is fine, just fine.............
