Default Hmmm timing prob maybe?

Ok so Im a novice and I just put my new carb and intake on and forgot to mark everything when I pulled the distributor. I fought the TDC thing for quite some time and just got my 77 Vette 350 ci fired up and runnin. I had the firing order in the dizzy completley wrong and now were good to go but im smokin a little out of the exhaust and havent used a timing light on the beasty yet. The plugs were new but Im wondering if I fouled anything out beings I had the fire arrangement FUBARed. Is it a good idea to replace the plugs again and what should I be looking for to get the timing as close as possible without a timing light? my idle is a little high at about 9000 but i dont want to do a carb adjustment until the timings good? Also my factory stereo is playing some funky static now which it worked before and my blower moter only comes on when I turn it on the cold air and the fan blows on high despite which setting I use so what did i disconnect? The car ran and worked like a champ till I touched it so any advice from you pros would certainly help. Thanks

First off it sounds like you disconnected some wires under hood on fire wall. As far as the idle-9000? Im assuming 900. You can adjust speed on carb idle screw as it will be adjusted when you set the timing. It can also be adjusted by slightly turning dist. clockwise, but you have to be carefull that it still starts. The carb will have to be tuned to your set up also. I would adjust the idle screw get it timed and carb tuned, then worry about your idle. Also welcome to the forum you have come to the right place.

Don't farque with the carb until the timing is set properly. You WILL need a light to do that.

I may be chasing a tail here but you could always try jiggling the back of the fan switch via the ashtray in case the fault is not related to your intake swap - the fresh air vent cable and lever is close to the wiring harness on my '70, and when I first had the car the PO had run wires for an aftermarket radio close to the lever. Over time the lever had worn off the insulation by rubbing on the wire. When I went to open the air vent, big sparks and a small dust fire. Almost filled my pants. Thankfully I was not driving fast.

I say this as you mention when you move the dial to the heat position (non-electrical if I recall) you get zero fan. Mechanical actions may be separating connections.

oops! I just realized you have a '77 and I am unfamiliar if they changed the air setup. Apologies if I'm incorrect.
