Mr. Jeff, In 1982 they sold 5,457 Gymkhana Suspension set up cars. Where are you getting your Info. that 81 cars were the last year. I'm not doubting your info. I would just like to know more info. on the 82. If they used the Composite Spring, on the Gymkhana Suspension in 82, I wonder what the weight of the spring was rated at?
It appears there is a rubber piece above and below the spring on each side of the diff mount but they look to be pushing out. I would make sure they are secure in there or find new pieces of rubber to sandwich the spring in there.
As for the noises - you need to make sure everything is OK in the rear. Check the wheel bearing and U-joints as well as the bushings on the rod below the axle shaft and the shock bushings - especially the lower bushing. There are also rubber bushings on each end of the bolts connecting the spring to the trailing arms that can go bad allowing the bolts to bang around against the arms.
Basically, the spring itself is likely OK and you just need to clean up any worn-out parts in the rear and likely stick decent new shocks on it to help the ride.

Can anyone shed some light on the doc's question. If anyone has read i am trying to figure out what is up with mine also. Measured the front sway bar at 1.118" but have not checked to see if the springs are continuous or tapered at one end.
