IT's HAZ-MAT- even though the R-12 itself is not dangerous, the fact that it's under pressure in the can makes it. Like mrvette pointed out- ground shipping only. The cost of shipping haz-mat anything is high, but if you ship it and don't declare it as haz-mat, the fine will scare you.
getting some next weekend but if not enough will let you know, going to do my dad 85 eldo maybe, what is best company to ship by land??? greyhound won't do they said, so UPS< FEDEX or ???
Refrigerant R12 and R22 are heavier than air.
So how in the **ll can it make it to the ozone.
I use to buy 30 pound jugs for $18.00.
Everything above that became tax.
How much did the Gov. make on our backs?
BILLIONS, but I don't carry any resentments,
18 years Refrig. / AC tech.
134 will work on top of R-12.
The story about not mixing with R-12 and it's oil, another LIE.
Have a nice day
how can you ship r-12 (12oz cans) the easiest and cheapest way??? anyone done this??? thanks.
I went thru this when I started selling R-12 on Ebay. I found that shipping via USPS was the easiest. It can only be shipped ground and the package must be marked "Consumer Commodity ORM-D". That's it. Rates are the same as regular Parcel Post. UPS wanted me to fill out a bunch of forms before they would accept a shipment.

Looks like the OP's question has basically been answered. Moving a bit off topic, been in the refrigeration field for years, with the industry quickly responding to the changes in the mid 90's. The global warming thing hasn't changed one iota, with most of it evaporating chlorine from the oceans. Making recovery manditory's a good idea though. Refrigerents changing again, and agree it's mostly political now.
I just picked up a 30 pound can on craigslist for $150. I would suggest that you look in your area and see what pops up.
Some guys sell the small 12 ounce cans for $15-$25 each. The larger containers are more of a bargain...I saw prices anywhere from $250-$300 for 30 pound containers. A guy listed mine yesterday morning and I called him immediately.
