I got my ar #136 wheels today at sear and they had to check to see if they clear the calipers. Guess what. The lady called and said the front cleared and the back did not. She said she would put my old wheels back on. Then 5 minutes later she called back and said they clear. You know what the problem was. The tech had my car in park and that is why the wheel would not turn.
I will be checking all my wheels when i pick her up tonight.
Bet the guy doing the work would appreciate knowing the woman told you exactly what happened. :mad She could've just said they were mistaken and left it at that.
Good for you though, now you get to worry about what else he did wrong to your baby!
Wonder how many burn outs the'll do after they get those wheels on. :D
Here is something else. They just called and said it is ready to pick-up. They wanted to know if i wanted the old wheels. No just trash them. Of course i want the old ralley wheels. :smash: hello anyone home in there?
I believe....I had such a hard time trying to get them to order them at one Sears...I finally left, (he even said he called the manufacture and they don't make them for my car....I was like "do you have access to the internet, I'll show you the rims allready on a vette" ....he said he didn't have access)
Keep in mind I had called them before going there, and they said they could order them but I had to come down in person to deposit some money...#$%#$%#$$
I called a different Sears and they ordered and allowed me to pay for them over the phone...go figure...I then took the rims to BFG dealer and had them mount the tires on the rims....Saturday...I put them on the vette. :-) :yesnod:
Yeah, they clear the calipers but just. I hung around as the tech was putting them on my car and could tell he had doubts as he was looking at it.
Ylose, sorry to hear about your hassle, my experience was just the opposite. It's just amazing to me the wide range of competence or lack thereof you find in the automotive industry. It's pure luck finding a soul that knows what he's doing.
That really sucks that you had some problems. I also bought a set from a near by Sears, and they should be hear by Tuesday. I am going to put them on myself though. It shouldn't be no hassle.
I wouldnt let Sears repair my hotwheels car let alone anything else. They have been getting bad press for years about the auto repair department and rightly so. I seen what goes on in those places . the BUBBA institute of higher learning :yesnod: :yesnod: :chevy
I got my AR 136s and only let Sears mount the tires on the rims. They even messed that up. I specificed Adhesive weights only and they put both adhesive and edge crimp type
I made them redo it as the manager watched. He was into racing too and new crimp weights are a NoNo. :smash:
I put the wheels on the car myself, they would probably jack it under the oil pan
Sorry to hear some of you guys had problems.. I on the other hand was fortunate..kind of...(they lost the lugs) The guy who mounted my tires to the rims was part time, but has been doing custom wheel mounting for 25yrs. Sears calls him in when there are custom wheels to mount. I got to talking (schmoozing actually) to him and he was very carefull, used the stick on weights, and even buffed em up when he was done. I will mount them myself. :smash:
I ordered from sears the ar136 the guy on the phone didnt want to take my credit card over the phone and wanted me to come down.I couldn`t cause I pulled my back at work and was resting. He then said alright that he would put me in the computer and order them and give me a call the next day where I could come down a pay for them.He gave me a price of 345.00 with locks lugs and so on.I told him sounds good. I was goin to have my mother pic them up since she lives 5 min away.Well the next day comes and sears calls me and the sales man asks me if I have calipers with dual pistons I tell him yes, then he tells me that these rims will not fit my car that he just got off the phone with the company that makes them and that I could come on down and look at other rims.I told him I seen lots of corvettes with these rims on them.He says I should then see where they ordered them from and I told them they ordered them from sears. After a moment of silence He tells me that there were goin to be other rims on sale Sunday and I could come on down :mad I just hung up.Sorry for the long post just had to vent a little
....at least they didn't break a wheel stud !
When I was in high school I worked at local tire store. One guy I worked with was strong as a ox and not quite as bright. Had a older gentleman come in for tires on his 60's mopar landyacht and bubba broke off 4 of 5 lugs nuts before he figured out the left side was left hand thread.
79 vette, that is the problem I had....I mounted them tonight...
fit perfect...and look purdy...hoping to take pics (I tried silvrr77, but the damn battery was dead in digital cam :smash: :smash: , my bro was there and he was testing his tux for prom !! , I wanted a pic of that too...son of a #$%#$%..) but the Rims are so SWEET !! new tires all around too... :yesnod:
I wouldn't let even a Chevy tech work on my vette, let alone my son’s Match Box cars. I recently had a buddy go to a local Chevy dealership to fix his oil leak on his '96 Z28 before his warranty ran out. He's a big time motor head and usually would do his own work but he though, "why bother it's under warranty." On the way home his engine light came on and through further inspection he found the oxygen sensor connector dangling unconnected and found a large dent in the oil pan. To make things worse, they never fixed the leak. They also damaged a few other things on top of the engine.
Another story was a buddy's new ’99 vette had dash and ignition problems. He didn't get his vette back for a couple of months. I have more stories I can bore you with but I’m getting bored with myself. I'm sure there are very competent mechanics out there, but finding them is the luck of the draw, so my advice is to do as much of the work as you possible can.

I guess you dont have word of mouth on who is doing good work in your area. Or heres one maybe you arent familiar with its called the ASE certification program. this is the system recognized all over this country for techicians who attain a degree in higher learning in the automotive field. Theres another that is GM specific and that is the Master tech program. These would be the guys at the top of there feild. Documentation is usually hanging on the walls of the dealership along with those of ASE certification. If your friend has a bad experince as Im sure many have had in the Automotive repair isnt it ignorant to make such a broard statement about a group that acuatlly builds the cars you drive? Kinda like saying after a airplane accident after they find out it was a mechanical failure that all those guys that do the maintence on them are incompetent that would be pretty stupid. As for Sears as I stated before there rep has been bad for years. As with anything that you are purchasing it pays to research and to look for excellence as in any feild the top techs are out there and there creditials are hanging on the wall when you walk in.
