I am prepairing to remove my 700R4 and install a Super T-10. I have everything as ready as I can in hopes of completing it this weekend. The only thing I do not know for sure is what mods will be required to the tunnel. The auto shifter sits in a recess and the 4-speed will require a hole. I purchased the 'lower' rubber shifter boot and planned to use that as a guide. Does anyone have any photo's of tunnel modification? Or perhaps pics of a 4-speed tunnel verses an auto tunnel?

When I changed mine last summer I made a split in the auto boot (recessed), removed the metal around the new boot and bonded the new boot to the old. Works perfect and did not have to cut anything on the floor.

Hmm, yours is obviously different than mine. No auto boot, no hole in the tunnel (except for shifter cable a few inches forward).

Carl your floor is different than my 75. You will probably have to buy a lower boot to use for a template. I guess I was just lucky.

Carl, FWIW here's a couple pics of how I did my '70. Obviously you have metal floors as opposed to the glass one in mine, but you may be able to get some idea as to how you can make yours work. The earlier cars had a steel insert about the same shape as the depression in your tunnel; it was somewhat larger than the 4-speed boot that I installed so I just fitted an aluminum 'bridge' over that hole and fastened the boot onto it after some trimming. I used a Hurst shifter on mine also, there may be some difference between how this would appear and what would be necessary for a 'stock' installation. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the response guys, I know what I have to do now.
This is my daily driver, so I will cut the recessed area out, install the trans so I can drive the car. Then I will make a plate, fit the new 'lower' boot, and reinstall the console as time permits.

I am taking pics and will share, along with weighing everything coming out and going in.
