Default Driving 350 with only headers on?

With any luck i'm going to have a small window of a week or two to be able to drive my corvette this year.

First I've got about 2 weeks to slap it together and hope it starts.

I had to cut the exhaust to get it out when I started the body off. and i'm not ready to make a decision on what kind of exhaust I want to put back in it.

So will I damage anything by running it with only the headers?
I don't care about the noise or exhaust fumes....just don't want to hurt anything.

I think if you drive for a long time you can burn your exhaust valve.

Don't forget to bring with you the headphones!!!

Several of us have run w/ open headers- just don't get on it around cops. Not too loud at idle coasting ...

No damage will happen at all. Just very loud. Be careful of the floor board and make sure they dont get to hot.

I've done it, in about the weakest C3 configuration possible: a stock L48 equivalent.

Idle is incredibly loud, but bearable.

Give the car ANY throttle, and you're in for some NOISE. Lots of it.

If you saved the header flanges off your old exhaust find a couple mufflers on craigslist and clamp them on,they will more than pay for themselves.

I do not have a complete exhaust on my project yet just the open headers. I have taken it out a couple of times the neighbors all make comments about it. Man it is loud… real loud.

good to hear. I was worried it would damage something.

I always heard something about back pressure...

I have the old mufflers. But for the 2 weeks I'll be driving it(maybe 12 miles at a time) I think i'll just run the open header and pay for the hearing loss later.

I have no hearing in my left ear. My wife insists it was from racing my big block vettes with sidepipes (with no mufflers), later a blown injected alky dragster, and drag racing motorcycles.

Maybe.

A beneficial side effect is all I have to do is turn my head when she is YAMMERING at me. Peace and quiet.

My neighbors get a kick out of my cars running open headers. But only for a little while, and never on Sunday morning.

Once drove a Cutlass Supreme from Maryland to Virginia down 395 with open headers. 45 miles. Wow that was loud!

I feel your pain- after 25+ years of working around jet airplanes, I found I have a slight loss of hearing at a frequency that just "happens" to be right at the same pitch as my last wife.
