Default Timing question again!!

Ok,
Will an Edelbrock Quadrajet along with an electronic ignition module with new wires and coil throw my timing off? Shop manual states 4 degrees before TDC and that is where it is set now. The car starts OK at idle and then backfires about midway through first and second gears.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Stout,, Read this from the sticky section: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c3-t...long-post.html
Then come back if you have any questions.

The info given should get you going and you will probably notice a much better running engine. 4°BTDC is smog timing, you can do better.

What does the carburetor have to do with timing?

PeteZO6 Thanks for the reply. I'm off tomorrow and will have plenty of time to try and get this thing set correctly. Thanks again Pete!
