1974 Driver side mirror bolts stripped - please help!
Hello all,
The side view mirror on the driver side of my 1974 Stingray has been wobbly for some time. I bought a new gasket and mount for it and took the old one off to find that the two screw holes that hold the bracket on are stripped.
Anyone have any ideas on how to remount the bracket or fill in the screw holes and redrill .... or any ideas at all?
THANKS
I just got too frustrated and had to step away for a minute - after scratching the paint a few times etc and thought perhaps someone on here has had a similar struggle.
Some of the mirror mount kits use well nuts. You can probably enlarge your stripped holes and use the well nuts. They work, but do not mount as tightly as the original screws.
Not familiar with the particular application, but familiar with what the other posts are talking about. You can maybe drill them out slightly and use Helicoil inserts, or possibly re-tap to the next larger size. The mentioned thread serts are no big deal either, as just a tool looking like a pop rivet gun, but the rivets are threaded. The one I have is called a Riv-Nutter.
