I only have liability insurance on my Vettes... I would like to get full coverage.
However - most regular insurance companies don't offer full coverage on classic cars. I have inquired information about classic car insurances... Most of them require that you have a US drivers license for more than 10 years with no points to qualify. Well, I have no points but I only live in the US since a little more than 5 years. My 8 years of driving in Europe doesn't count... Other insurance companies limit the miles you are allowed to drive per year with your classic car to 3000. I drive 5000 - 10000 miles per year with my 68 - so I won't qualify too.....
What can I do to get full coverage on my Vettes for a reasonable Rate without limiting my mileage and without having a US drivers license for more than 10 year???
You can try Hagerty's Ins Co...a link to them is on my site. No mileage limitations, no deductable, full coverage and agreed value at decent premium prices. The questions about how long have you been living here shouldn't come up.....they never asked me those type of questions. Good Luck
I'll second what Rick said, I've had Hagerty for 2 years and the question never came up. If they don't ask, don't offer to tell them, it shouldn't be an issue anyway.
Just checked the Hagerty website! They quoted $741 for both of my Vettes annually.... that's less than what I currently pay for liability only... However - they do require the car to be parked in a fully-enclosed and locked garage when not in use. I live in a condo and the garage is completely closed with two remote control garage doors. However - lots of other vehicles are parked in the same garage... Don't know if I qualify due to those facts....
I am 37. married, clear record, multi car discount. Allstate is my provider. The WeasleVette is under full coverage as a limited use daily driver, which is less than 12,000 a year as a non-primary vehicle. It is insured for replacement value. The cost is $147.00 every 6 months.
If I wanted classic coverage, then milage was limited, a certified appraisal is to be provided (the car would be covered for a specific amount of $$), and the cost would effectively double.
Hope this helps.
Weasle :D
I am also with Allstate. I'm not sure what I pay for the vette alone, but I pay 60.78 a month for Liablitly on my 89 blazer, and absolute full coverage with no deductable on my 75 vette.
Im also only 21 years old, so when Im 24, my rates will drop again. I have a good driving record. (only one speeding ticket, about 3 years ago)

I'm no expert, but it seems that your situation meets the qualifacations (enclosed and locked). Three years ago when I first started with Hagerty, I had the same type of conditions as you. I parked in a underground facility that included a hundred or better cars. Of course it had 24hr guard and security camera's. Not sure if that made a difference or not.
Olivier: You do know that hagerty will not allow you to drive the car to/from work, right? As long as you're fine with that, hagerty is a great choice.
BTW, I have no problem insuring my '71 here in Dallas. I've had a US license for 7 years. Full coverage for $18k stated value is $330 for 6 months. It is insured as a primary driver (which it is).

I usually drive my Vette to work every friday (if the weather forecast is dry) because I drive directly from work to the "Tower Shops at Davie" Cruise night (which is held every friday night). The show is 5 miles from my work and 30 miles from home. It wouldn't make sense to drive back home, get my car and drive 60 miles roundtrip... I will ask them when I call them up...
One thing with Hagerty is you have to have a daily driver that is insured with someone else. As for driving it to work, I am not advocating lying to them....maybe just omit-or forget to tell that you take it Friday to work then the show.
I was within moments of signing with Haggerty when that driving restriction came up. If memory serves, they don't limit you on mileage, but there are pretty strict restrictions on where you can drive (e.g. only to shows or events, etc.). No driving to work or even to the farthest corner of your favorite donut shop parking lot.
As a result, I ended up going with Great American. They do have a mileage restriction, but have several plans with several different mileage limits, and no restrictions on where you drive. Apparently they figure that the average classic car owner is smart enough to know where/when to take their car.
I was able to insure my cars through them with a high enough mileage limit that I'm in no danger of going past it, and the rates were comparable to Haggerty's in the first place. Note that I haven't had a claim with them yet, so I don't have any experience on that side.
