Driving around on a beautiful Saturday afternoon in Maryland. When I came to a stop sign I noticed that my power antenna motor was whirring away :(
So I removed it when I got home and found the nylon cable was broken :mad
I see I can get a repair kit for $16 bucks from zip but I also see some universal power antennas for about $50 so I can just put a whole new unit on.
Has anybody done the repair? How easy and would I just be fixing one part of a 21 yr old system and something else will fail down the road. :smash:
Suggestions please :blueangel:
Thanks,
John
I had the same thing happen to my 81, I replaced it with a new one, and its not real easy to get at ether, you need 3 arms and swivel fingers and a long reach . So YES, you dont want to have to do it a second time.
I put a new cable in mine and it works great. I doubt the motor would go bad because it is in a decent environment. I have bought plenty of new parts that went bad after a short time, so I would rather put a cable in and stick with what has already worked for 20 years. Oh yeah, the cable replacement is real easy to do.

Zip has mast repl instructions in their tech section, refer to that.
Concerning the aftermkt ant unit, I would check first to be sure they sell a repl mast, and its cost. I think it would be worth keeping the 'stock' unit in good repair. Good Luck -Rod :chevy

I went to the Zip tech sit but couldn't find any antenna info
or way to search the tech area, just 4 or 5 tech items
can you send me a link?
Thanks
If the motor is running than it sounds like the mast is bad. The vendors have replacement masts and it is not a hard job once you get the antenna assy. out of the car. BUT if you do replace the complete assy with a new one would you let me know. I am trying to find parts to repair the motor on my antenna so I would be interested in buying your old one. Thanks.
