Default DIY side exhaust

Originally I have planed to buy side exhaust from our forum member, they are a good price, especially that they include headers, but knowing I am located in Europe, I will pay a lot for shipping and other thinks like taxes and customs, for sure way over $2000 for everything. So decided to build my own side exhaust
I have already some headers, do not know the brand, but they look like those:

My paln would be to use them, than connect them with a single pipe that would turn instantly and go to the side of the car, than it would get a bit wider and form a mufler. I would try to install some bafles inside, or not
Did anybody tried this sollution, are there any photos, threds, any sugestions, etc?

Here is a thread I found a long time ago and is what I will be doing on my car.
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c3-t...ide-pipes.html
I'm not sure if those headers you have will work because they go too too far back before you can turn them out to the side. Or, are you looking to have just the end of the pipe come out after the turn? It will probably make things very hot on your floorboards and inside the car, plus all the exhaust fumes will end up inside with you if it exits too far forward...

Do you realize our cars have an excellent exhaust system w/ headers, duals & mufflers in stock location?

If you don't want to try that first, then maybe you could get shorty headers closer to you that fit many Chevys to use w/ side pipes.

Unless you plan on doing something this stupid, (3rd post down on thread in link, see picture)

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c3-t...work-imho.html

your full length headers aren't going to work with traditional side pipes that come out directly behind the front tire. Sorry. The factory side exhaust was designed to be used with the factory exhaust manifolds, and the exhaust pipe that connects the manifold to the side pipe goes almost perpendicular to the direction of travel (straight out sideways, in other words) so a header like this:

Or this:

Or this:

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/HOK-2224-1HKR/

is needed.

the U turns are compleatly stupid...

The help you gave me in this thread was what I was looking for. the most important info for me is that long tube heders go to far, that is all I needed. Looks like I will have to go with the most expensive sollution and order them from States...

I don't know where the 90* bend needs to take place in those headers, but it looks like there is quite a distance of all four pipes running together before it joins with the collector. I'm sure you have some decent welders in your area. If there is room to do it, how about cutting some of that 'extra' length out of your headers and rewelding the collectors on at that point. Maybe that's more trouble than it's worth, but it might allow you to use what you already have.

Also, there are some 'corkscrew' inserts for 3" exhaust pipes that act as muffler baffles. If you have a welder good enough to do what's listed above, he can certainly work up some side pipes with baffles in them. Just another thought to consider... Good luck.

There are some Hooker side mount headers listed here in C3 Parts now.
You could also do a WTB there.
