I'm currently doing some fitting, amongst which is my oil cooler adapter. I ran into so problems.
First : if i have the oil cooler adaptor on the block an spin on the oil filter, it touches the header in the location of the collector.
Second : i tried a filter relocation kit (for which i still haven't found a good place in the engine bay btw) but in this case, the fittings that connect the hoses to the relocation adapter are very close to the collector (3/8")
Did anyone run into this problem.
The headers are MrGaskets (probably old, since they came of a donor car, but in very good condition)
Yes, unfortunately. If you have headers, clearance for the oil filter will be an issue. Also, I worry that the proximity of the hot headers to the filter housing will cook the oil. I had headers for a while, and took them off, that being one of the reasons. To get everything to fit at all, I had to run an itty bitty oil filter, which I did not like to do. Now I run the stock manifolds, and have plenty of room to use the 2 quart oil filter from the medium trucks.

I have found that the Mobil 1 M1-111 Extended Performance short oil filter (78mm height) works well in these applications. The filters are available on-line from various sources such as Amazon.com.
As for relocating the filter. I would recommend using silicone hoses with or without heat shielding (e.g., fiberglass protective wrap covered with aluminum foil to reflect the heat). Nylon-reinforced neoprene rubber hoses may work with adequate heat shielding (see above).
Regardless of which solution you choose, check the filter/hoses for rubbing periodically. Worn out motor mounts can allow sufficient movement to rub a hole in adjacent components.
Just today someone suggested putting the oil cooler in line with the remote filter. Not sure about that one or its drawbacks. BTW : i use a oil thermostat to control flow to the cooler, so it would probably restrict the flow back to the engine as well right ?
Mcjacks shorty headers are an exact duplicate of the OEM manifolds in a shorty header. I run them on my 78 L-82 4 speed with the Mobil 1 truck V8 oil filter with zero issues.

Yes, you can plumb the remote oil filter and cooler in line, and an oil thermostat is a good idea to keep from over-cooling the oil, but AFAIK shouldn't present a restriction. See page 3 for schematic including a remote filter, cooler and accusump...
