Differential Removal
I've not found the Haynes manuals to be that helpful. Lets say you want to replace a kafluggin valve. I'm going to exxagerate a little here, but I think you'll get the point. The Haynes instructions will state:
1) disconnect the battery
2) remove the kafluggin valve
3) install the new kafluggin valve
4) reconnect the battery
Except for the battery disconnect/reconnect, there's a lot of missing detail on a lot of their repairs. Where there is a lot of detail, it appears they just copied stuff from the factory manuals.
Also, when I needed to replace the oxygen sensors on my 97 Tbird, I found a comment in the Haynes manual that they didn't provide repair instructions for the smog equipment, the text stated I had to consult a professional, so there was not clue as to where the oxygen sensors were. BS. I was able to find the oxygen sensors by myself. I've done repairs on my 95 Cadillac and 97 Tbird where the detail needed was not in the Haynes manual. I'd say that if you want to spend $30 for a document that copies parts of the factory manuals and tells you to disconnect the battery and reconnect the battery, go for it. Best advice: buy the factory manuals, use the forum, and oh yes...once again, we can't forget, remember to disconnect and reconnect the battery.

I vote for the 2-jaw puller method, FWIW. I'm too cheap to buy a dedicated transmission jack so I made a wooden cradle out of scrap wood that I bolted to my small trolley jack; with this method you can wheel it right out into the driveway for a pressure wash. Also makes installation much easier. The cross piece on the cradle is bolted to the rear holes on the strut rod mount so the diff can't go anywhere:
