The bolts have a very slight bend in them so they need to be replaced. Problem is I can't get the correct grade bolts localy, only mild steel available. The only option I have is to fit normal bolts, but I am concerned about play in the bolt on the outer, head, side of the frame. The standard bolt has the square section that locates into the frame, a normal bolt will have a small amount of play in the hole. Can get the correct bolt from the US but it will take a couple of weeks.
Just get the proper bolts from Ecklers, Corvette America, or any other.
They will have the carrage bolt head (square sholder) and propper length and grade.
That style bolt was used on more than one GM chassis,I'm sure if you do a bit of local digging, you may find an older Holden that has what you need.I have used many different grades and bolts of very questionable origins on more than one of my short track stock cars to strap the steering box to the frame that took very hard hits to a concrete wall and never had an issue, but take that for what its worth...
Unless they are cracked or badly damaged, put two nuts on the threaded end (to protect the threads), then use a hammer to straighten them. They'll be fine for the next 40 years, too.
The bolts are a bit rust pitted as well so I think its best to replace them. I have to order some other bits as well so I may as well get the right ones. Willcox has them for $13. I wasted more than that driving around town looking for them.
