Power Steering - bad whine

Hello all,

My power steering just started to whine really badly - mainly when I am turning - but also upon starting the engine. I looked at the pump and can't seem to located a place to put fluid in... am I missing something?

Assuming you have a 1974 the cap is on top of the pump. This is what the cap looks like

It is hard to see because it is right under the alternator. Will need a long funnel to top it off.

Sounds like you have a leak. There can be several sources for a power steering leak. You need to get under the car and find out where you are losing fluid.

The cap is in the worst place for removing. It's a real PITA to unscrew, tilt and remove the cap yet alone see into the container.

And that's the reason I moved my alternator to the pass side...to uncover the PS pump.

You want to fill the reservoir so that the fluid comes to the COLD mark on the stick on the reservoir cap.

You don't want to overfill. When the system heats up and the fluid expands, you want the fluid to remain in the reservoir not overflow out of the reservoir.
