All of my smog pump and equipment have been removed but I still have the smog lines coming out of the Ram horns. They don't go anywhere and I want to remove them to clean up the engine bay area.
Looks simple enough, a 9/16 wrench on four nuts per side and they look to come out. My question is I am sure I will need to purchase some type of plugs to put back into the ram horns once I pull these out. What should I put in there and should I apply teflon or rtv on the threads and do I need to torque them down?
Hey Steve. If your '73 is the same as my '77 these are the proper plugs for this application. I have seven of them if you can not find any. My car has six pipes. I am not sure how many yours needs. Free to you with your address. Also, use a flare nut wrench to remove the old. They are easy to round off. mike...
Thanks Mike, I appreciate the offer. I have eight pipes on my '73 so I'll have to run the NAPA anyway to get the plugs. You're right about the flare nut wrench, very easy to round. I have them all off right now except for the one behind the a/c compressor. That one is a PITA to get to! Thanks again.
Crap. I used brass plugs from AutoZone that didn't have a flare. That flare doesn't seal the hole, so I can't understand how it makes a difference one way or the other? Hope I'll be alright just using the plugs.
