Went to the video store and picked up a DVD. On the way back home the linkage for the clutch broke.
The linkage in the engine compartment looks to be fine all the way to the tranny. The linkage in the car is what seems to be broken. I found a washer and a broken keeper pin on the drivers side floor. The linkage from the pedal to a round pivot point seems ok, but I can't see what/where it attaches to from there. Any help is appricated.
Ive notice a nice groove in my rod that goes from the pedal through the fire wall. It causes the rod to twist a bit and it breaks the clips every now and again. I will be replacing the rod with a new one soon.
You might check yours and find that may be the source of the problem.
Boy, oh boy are you right - you can't see where it connects!
Lay on your back and stick you head against the clutch pedal.
Now do you see the point where the clutch rod connects to the pedal?
The hard part is to find a clip to hold it in place. GM says those are
standard hardware (get them at an auto store...) But I can't find them.
So I'm trying to use cotter pins instead.
Good luck hooking it back up... It is a bear to get back together because
you don't see too much and it's hard to get your arms up there!
Take out the driver's seat to make it a little easier.
Yeah, im sure that the problem is what others are saying, about the linkage pin being disconnected. I agree with above that it is very hard to see up there. I doubt that I will be able to get my hands/fingers in there to replace it
I will have to take a better look at it this weekend. I do need to replace the clutch and now would be a good time to take it all apart.
Same thing happend to me. Pushed in the clutch (pop) and it went to the floor. What a PITA to get at that linkage. While I was at it I replaced everything from the linkage rod to the clutch fork. It's not too expensive and those plastic bearings on the Z-arm are probably shot by now (mine were non-existant)
Hope you have skinny arms. If not find a pair of very long needle nose pliers!

Just FYI........All the good catalogs have those clips. I replaced all of mine when I did my engine swap.
