Default Seat Removal Options

I recently purchased a '68 Convertible off ebay, that is basically a barn find (not regularly driven since '87). It needs a lot of work, but one of the first things I need to do is get the seats out so I can work under the dash (and work on the seats).

The seat tracks are rusted in the all the way back position, so I do not have access to the rear bolts. I am thinking I will have to drill them out from underneath, but does anyone have an easier/clever suggestion?

Get some WD-40 or similar and spray the tracks and sliders. Take your time. The seats will eventually free up and you'll be able to get to the rear bolts.

Beats the heck out of trying to drill Grade 8 bolts from the bottom.

Agreed. Let WD-40 do its thing. Shoot it right down the track opening at the front. Sit in the seat and rock it. You will be able to move it.

Except get some Kroil. PB Blaster is a second choice but it is available at the auto parts chains whereas Kroil is hard to find (I order mine online).

Kroil works better (and smells better) IMHO, but both products are better suited to the job at hand than WD-40.

I sprayed PB Blaster down the rails and back and forth under the passenger seat, and did the same with Liquid Wrench on the driver's seat. Not sure how well it hit the rails, but I thought it would be interesting to see if one worked better than the other.

Hopefully it works. Thanks for the tips.

After a couple days soaking, the drivers (Liquid Wrench) side slid forward enough for me to get a socket on the back bolts. I had to use a pry-bar and some pieces of wood between the rear bulkhead and seat, but the seat is out.

The passenger (PB Blaster) seat still will not move, so I hit the whole area again with Liquid Wrench.

A very unscientific test, obviously, but I am happy I did not have to drill out the bolts. Did not think it would work, so thanks for the suggestions everyone.
