Default My horn is a mess

Need details and picture of the steering colume horn assembly for a 75 with tilt.

I took mine apart and it was full of junk pieces.
Some stuff missing and other stuff bent and broke.

This is a blowup of your 1975 T&T steering column, steering wheel, telescope lock, and horn parts. Not shown in this picture is a big spring that is permanently attached to the underside of the lower horn contact (part #12).

There is more to the horn circuit built into the T&T steering column itself. The turn signal switch (inside the column behind the toothed locking plate) has a plunger that tracks on the underside of the turn signal cancelling. The cam extends up through the locking plate and is contacted by the big spring mentioned in the above paragraph.

thanks for the help

My setup has a 4 inch rod that goes down the hole in the stearing Column. It looks to be grooved for a circlip.

I did not see it in the info. you provided.

Any ideas?

Ralph,
I don't have a good picture of that 4 inch rod handy. This is the best that I can do at the moment.

The rod extends down the center of the steering column shaft from the extreme right side to the left in this picture. The rod engages that half-moon shaped wedge with a notch cut out of it. When you rotate the telescope lock lever, that turns the special star screw. As the star screw threads deeper into the upper telescoping steering shaft, it pushes on the rod, tips the wedge, and locks the upper and yoke steering shafts together.

This blowup drawing does show that rod #40. You can also see the wedge #43, the upper steering shaft #41, the yoke shaft #44.

Don't know that I've ever seen this schematic or the description before. I did always wonder how the T&T locked so firmly from a simple screw. Now I know.

Thanks for posting this Jim.

Okay I got all of the pieces put it together and it still adjusts.

Problem:

I have 2 pieces that look like they fit together.
One piece snaps onto the horn button. Piece #3.
The cap that has the Corvette emblem on it.
And the other piece, which isn't shown, has a bolt pattern that matches the 1st piece, plus it has a leg that looks like an "L" and pushes a switch in the column that sounds the horn.

How are these 2 pieces fitted together?

Three screws (#2) attach the upper horn contact #3, shims #4, and spacer #8 to the hub asm #11.

These are the two pieces I'm talking about.

http://i1027.photobucket.com/albums/...hornPieces.jpg

They were loose in the horn.
I don't see any marks in them where the were joined.

It's probaly as easy as 3 small screws like you said, but....
