I picked up a very slightly used Jet Q-Jet Stage 2 from a local guy ($250). Does anyone have experience with these carbs? I've heard good things about Jet's work, but we all know about rebuilt carbs... I appreciate your thoughts.

I had my original Q-Jet on my '75 done by JET. That was several years ago. It was on top of a 383. Car ran very well on the street and at the track. It only had a 218/224 COMP cam and ran 8flat in the 1/8 mile at 86 mph. Also got about 16 mpg in mixed driving.
Now it's sitting on the shelf on top of the Performer RPM Q-Jet intake in my garage.
Thanks to those who posted. Car is a very original, 1 owner 65 442. Originally 4-Jet; Oldsey 442 Q-Jets started in 1966. I had a Edel 1903, which is a little lean on the primary side. I just slapped on the Jet Stage 2, and did not change a thing except set idle. Runs stronger off-idle. I have the basic tuning to do; I haven't adjusted the mixture screws. It idles down during light cruise better. I guess Jet reworks the idle circuit. This is a better carb. I might get one for my Vette (of course, Henry is right up the street in San Mateo)... Again, thanks for posting.
Just had the boys at Jet do a stage 2 rebuild on my Qjet. I've only had it back together for a few days. So it's a bit early to tell.
My car is a 74 small block with a 4 speed.
Apparently they richen up the idle and off idle circuits a bunch. I found that the factory setting for the choke pull off (on a cold start) was now way too rich. I had to adjust the choke linkage to open up quite a bit more than stock, otherwise it would cough, smoke, and stink of raw gas. I also leaned out the choke's bimetal spring linkage a scooch. I may have to play with it some more.
I haven't had a chance to get it through inspection or calculate the fuel consumption.
I'd say for $250, you got yourself a pretty good deal there. Have a Jet products catalog around somewhere, but cant find it right now. As I recall, the stage 2 has some of the fuel passages opened up a bit. I'm running a custom set up Q-Jet on one of my car's, and can't think of any other carb I'd rather run. Tuner Lars Grimsrud was giving a performance tune seminar here a few years back for $150 bucks, actually helping physically set up your car. My buddy's 79' L-82 Q-Jet was having problems, and offered to take it over, as he wasn't around. Didn't happen, and later had the dealer do it for $500 bucks.
