Hello All, I'm a 24 year old and I just purchased a 79' Corvette. I have always had an interest in buying one and fixing it up, but I don't have much experience in the auto sector. I was just wondering if anyone in the forum would be interested in being my mentor for this project. I would just like someone to bounce ideas off because I really don't have anyone that I can ask questions to. If you would be interested, just let me know. I would very much appreciate it. Thanks, MM
Hey MM
There is a lot of knowledge here on the CF you will find that there are certain members that are more knowledgeable about different areas of the car. Take advantage of all members and their knowledge.
I was in the same boat as you a couple of years ago, when I got my '76. I struggled for a while, then I found this forum, and it's been magic ever since. Frustrating, sometimes, but that's cars, especially older ones. Anyway, couple years later, and now I actually consider myself a pretty accomplished guy, in terms of mechanical ability and know how, and my car is, little by little, starting to show it.
It's important we get guys like you and me in here, to learn from the other guys, because we then pass on our knowledge to the next batch, as it were. So, when you do have a question, get it answered, and then do the corresponding work on your car, and it comes out ok, don't hesitate to chime in on it when you see someone else asking the same question or having the same problem you once had.
As Kevin said, welcome to the club! This forum is full of great mentors and it's available nearly around the clock. Use the search feature of this website along with the FAQ sticky up top as a starting point.
HOWEVER....most importantly...how about some pics of your car???
This forum's SEARCH button will become your best friend and confidence builder (in addition to the books mentioned above). Don't be afraid to ask about anything; (after searching) everyone is here to learn and help where they can.
Welcome to a great resource.
Hi Guys, Thanks for the responses! I have ordered the owners manual, shop manual and a few other documents. I actually live in Elkins, WV. Any chance anyone out there lives close? I did find out that one side of my tranny cover was lose which was causing a vibration. I plan on fixing that this evening. I took it for its first drive yesterday and it was great other than the vibration. Thanks for the advice and Ill definatley ask questions on here. Let me know if you guys have any advice for someone with little to no experience under the hood. One of my buddies find it funny that Im a computer hardware/software tech but don't know much about a cars mechanical functions. I hope everyone has a great day and I hope to hear from you all soon.
