Default Edelbrock Carb Problems

I have a new Edelbrock 1411 750 cfm auto choke carb one a new crate engine. It has started idling very rough and the dieing. When I started trying to figure what was wrong I noticed that fuel continues to run for 30 sec to a minute after the motor stops. Both front barrels do this.

Is the carb new? Sounds like the floats need adjusted.

Are you running a electric fuel pump? These carb are sensitive to to much fuel pressure I believe they are suppose to run around 5.5 PSI. it could be dirt in the needle seat.

I'm running a mechanical fuel pump. I did read that the pressure should not exceed 6.5 psi but I haven't installed a pressure gauge yet. Also how do you adjust the floats and check the needle seat. I'm not a carb guy so I know nothing about them.

You have to take the carb off and remove the top of it. The floats should be at 7/16ths if you do not have the carb manual its available on line from Edelbrock. It will walk you through everything.

The only thing I can come up with off the top of my head is that the fuel bowl is somehow becoming pressurized. Look at it from that point of view and see what you can figure out. Maybe the fuel bowl vents are plugged up?

I went to the parts store and got a pressure regulator and pressure gauge and I have downloaded the manual. This will be a first thing in the morning project. I'll check everything that's been suggested and welcome anymore suggestions. Thanks all.

I did this last weekend myself really not hard if you have any question just ask. Remove the pins that hold the floats to make the adjustment (bending the tabs) and then pull the needles out to make sure nothing causing them not to seat. Let us know how it works out or if you have problems.

I believe you have solved my problem. I checked everything that everyone suggested. The floats were off by quite a lot. Got those adjusted and checked jets for trash and the vents (or what I think were the vents) for trash. Let it set and idle until the temp came up to around 200 and it idled great with no problems. Thanks to everyone.
