Hi J,
Too my eye it looks like you DO have a set of the GM 69 covers, with a set of shop made mufflers/pipes to fit the headers (?) that are on your car.
It also looks like some 'chambered pipe' was used as the muffler. Are yur pipes very loud? I'd think they would be from what I see in the pictures.
I believe the stock system would need to be modified to meet up with your headers.
Regards,
Alan

oh yeah.. they are loud... i had borlas on my 97 and that was good... this set up was on the car when i got it.. its gotta be toned down some.... im just wondering if im gonna need to order headers too...
Jman.. those are the factory style covers.. and the pipes you show are correct for them.. assuming you do have the exhaust manifolds.
There are actually two types of this pipe.. loud and quite and you can specify this if you order them.
The quiet pipe is like it would have been from the factory.. the loud, well they are loud.
The baffles are probably rotted out of the ones on your car... this was a common problem with the original pipes when they get older. The new pipes are aluminized.
The covers are actually cast pot metal that is chrome plated.
Hi Willcx,
I believe if you look closely at the second picture you'll see what appears to be some chambered pipe, not the typical 69 style side-pipe muffler. I also think I see a pretty serious curve of pipe to get from the header's collector to the front of the chambered pipe.

Alan
Based on what I see here I think your stock 69 pipes/muffer will be a good choice if the header connection can be dealt with.
I don't see a collector at the bottom.. but then I don't see so well sometimes..
What I do see is the factory 69 pot metal covers and what looks like a 65-67 chambered pipe under it. I've seen this before.
But if he has the stock covers the 69 pipes would be a sweet addition and will fit just fine. If he does have headers then all he'll need to do is cut off the front of the pipe and weld on a collector.
Interesting.. but in post 4 the first picture.. I think I do see a collector which would indicate full length headers. And if you look at post three from the side.. it looks as if he has the rectangular end off a 69 side pipe. This is not something I've not seen before and it appears to me as if someone cut off the tip from the old 69 pipe and added it to the 65-67 pipe.
The 65-67 pipe is very distinctive, it has the crimped chambers and include only one pipe. The 69 pipe is almost like a double stacked pipe. 65-67 have a chrome end and the 69 have the rectangular end.
This was on the car when I bought it.. I think u guys are correct though.. I think I remember him telling me that the ends were welded on... And that the pipes were from an earlier corvette and the covers were original 69... I don't want to have to cut pipes or anything.. I will most likely need new headers as well to get those new pipes to fit?
Jman: If the car has headers and not manifolds it won't create an issue... Just to be on the safe side, give Norm or Tommy a call on Tuesday at 800-588-3883.
'm pretty sure you can order these for cars with headers. The issue there is that you would still need to have a collector welded on the pipe. If it were me, I'd just order the stock pipe from the link you selected above and then mount it to the rear of the frame. I would then hold it up the the end of the header, mark and cut it. If you don't want to cut it just make your mark. Then take the pipe to an exhaust shop and have them weld the collector (a special end for headers) on it. I've done this in my own shop many times and it is the best way to get the pipe to fit 100 percent on the money.
Most parts stores will have header collectors or if you are going to order new headers then I would order a set at that time. Headman made a great set of ceramic coated headers and I have a set on my 72. If you have AC you'll need to order a bracket for the rear mount but this is also sold by most speed shops.
There are other headers that will fit you car but I like the ceramic coated ones... at least on my car they still look new after 7 years.
HED-68306 Was the part number I used and the part number for the bracket was HED-20110. I don't carry these but you should be able to get them from Summit or Jeg's.
