Everything now works except the tail lights - as soon as I pull the headlights the fuse marked "Tail" immediatly blows.
The brake lights, reverse lights, turn signals, and hazards all WORK - I have been looking at the wiring diagrams and am trying to figure out where a good place to start looking for a short is - ANY ideas - ANYONE else ever run into this issue?
My instrument lights have gone out as well, but I think this might just be the result of an old fuse - there is a small bubble in the filiment so I will try and replace that tomorrow.
I went through this problem almost exactly. For me it was a loose wire under the dash that went from the headlight connector to a harmonica connector (mine had fallen out). I never blew a fuse, but I lost my tail lights and then my dash lights. I believe it was the orange wire for me, found it with the continuity function on my multimeter.
Do you have the Doc Rebuild wiring diagram(s) for your year? These helped me a bunch because they have the connectors and wire colors pictured on the diagram for easy identification.
