I was wondering about T-tops and how you all winter your cars. In the winter do you remove the T-tops so the weather stripping can expand, or do you leave the tops on all the time?
Speaking of T-tops, when I got my 79 they guy gave me 2 tops, colored ones a mirrored ones, the mirrored ones dont look like they fit right, seem to sloop over the windows alot more then the colored ones do (after market ones) does anyone elses?
I dont think I'll ever use them if someone wants to make an offer :D
Mine where on 14 years straight in my brothers garage. No problems, with the tops that is. Now lets talk about the motor, gas tank, fuel and brake lines!!!!!
I hear ya Joe, I was just wondering if leaving them off made the gaskets last longer? that way they not smashed down for so long. I may be the only person here who doesn't like the Corvette with out the tops. I like either a full convertible, or a straight coupe. T-tops are just too much a PITA.
Although you can't see my T-Tops, they are covered with an exterior grade naugahyde. I did this when I got the car and they have held up pretty well for many years. The weather stripping is original and the car is water tight...at least for a Corvette....mostly. I can easily remove the tops and store them behind the seats without worrying about scratching paint or slipping them into bags. I've used a vinyl reconditioner about three times over the years to keep the naugahyde new looking. The tops have been on and off about a zillion times and I've never really been concerned about the weatherstripping. It just never occured to me.
