Default Difference between 1982 fuel pump and 1985 fuel pump

OK. I have settled on replacing the fuel pump on my 1982 CE with the 1982 Corvette model fuel pump. However, before I purchase the new pump I want to ask:

1. What is the difference between the two? - other than the psi output, which is higher on the 1985 model.

2. Is there any physical difference which will require me to make any type of hose or wire change, or soldering?

If anyone has done this change, please post a step-by-step guide on how to proceed and the hardware necessary other than what comes with the fuel pump installation kit.

I tried searching for this but I did not find anything specific.

Thanks for the help.

Pump size is the same. They look identical. Wiring is different. Delco comes with the adapter harness.

I think even a new 82 pump needs to be rewired to the new style connector too.....so no real extra work on either.

I just replaced my 82 pump with a 85 , you will need a new sending unit gasket, soldier the wires and use heat shrink wrap, also use clamps on the short piece of hose from the pump to the fuel line and install the pump sock in the direction it came off. Be very careful not to bend the float. With the 85 pump you will notice a improvement in the idle and performance.
