Default 71 C3 electrical question

I have a question reguarding a Potter & Brumfield relay # VF4-45F11. This connects to a four wire harness under my dash that appears to be coming off of the steering column and are 2 large purple and white wires that are spliced into a female connector. Also out of that connector there is a seperate wire that goes somewhere. Can someone tell me where that wire goes and what is this relay for. I have a complete wiring diagram from mid a merica and a troubleshooting manual but the secamatic only shows certain pieces as terminal ends and dosent tell me what it is for. Any help would be appriceated. I have another question reguarding the new vac siloniod on the back of the tach but will repost on that later.I know my spelling is bad please forgive me this car is winning the battle.

Hi SW,
Your spelling is just fine, and these cars win some of the battles but not all!
I really can't help on the wire question. Any chance of a picture?; that often helps people recognize the part you're asking about.
This post will also get you to the top again for some new looks!
Regards,
Alan

Sounds like an aftermarket relay from description.
Probably spliced into the ignition switch connector.
Only two purple w/white stripe wires in dash should be to ignition switch and neutral safety switch.
Picture would confirm.

Yes you are right. Since the netural safety switch and clutch switch have been taken out the ignition needed a power source to complete the start circuit, therfore the relay added and the extra wire will go to the acc side of the fuse box to receive 12vdc. Thanks for confiring my thoughts. This will get it back running, but I will reinstall Netural safety switch the way it was supposed to be and do away with the relay. Thanks for the help.

I have the same issue, former owner removed neutral safety switch, but it came with my '71. The best wiring diagram to get would be from Dr. Rebuild, he went out of the way to correct a few factory errors for the '71 model. His are in full color and worth the cost!
