I have a 73 and the passenger side T-Top is making a vibrating noise. I have just had it painted and the weather stripping has been replaced. It looks like the trim strip in the front also has a rubber seal to the top of the window frame. This strip is worn flat and it looks like this is where the noise is coming from. My question is can I get the strip separate or can I only buy it as part of the trim around the top?
Because of the new paint I will not be driving with the tops out for a month at least and I think this could drive me up the wall
Hi P,
I don't think I've ever seen that rubber bead available by itself.
Have you removed a shim (if there are a couple) from the center/front tab, and tightened the adjustable hold down pin in the front latch, to hold the front of the roof panel down as tightly as possible?
Regards,
Alan
That rubber strip is crimped to the stainless trim moulding and would be difficult to remove without distorting the metal trim. You possibly can still find OEM NOS pieces, as I've had to do after scraping up this piece of trim accidentally. The stainless trim moulding is also a tight fit onto the fiberglass roof panel, I don't know how successful you would be at trying to install this piece on newly painted panel. You can expand this trim enough to ease its re-installation, however trying to get a good tight fit after its on the roof panel presents another problem.
