I've been through Lars' papers to adjust my 670 Street Avenger several times and best I can tell my butterflies are stuck or I'm trying to adjust the wrong thing. I thought the transfer slots were the long slots that run up the bore. As you can see I have my idle screw backed all the way off and the butterflies won't close anymore to achieve the .020" adjustment position. I'd estimate them currently at .125" or so. What am I doing wrong? Are those not the right slots?
They are the correct slots. Something else in the linkage is preventing the blades from fully closing. Was you choke fully open when you took this picture? Is the fast idle cam preventing full closure?

I have scratched my head over the exact same thing. Here is what is most likely going on: When you are making this adjustment, you are most likely holding the carb upside down, looking down at the bottom of the baseplate to observe the transfer slot. While it is upside down, the weighted end of the fast idle cam flops down and holds the throttle plates open. Flip the carb over right side up, hold the choke flap all the way open, and give the throttle linkage a little flick, and the throttle plates should close up all the way. Then flip it over again and observe the transfer slot. Ya have to know what you are doing when you adjust things like carburetors. Like my Dad always said, "If you don't want to pay an expert, ya have to become an expert." You are now one small step closer to being a Holley carb expert!
