My center gauges just stopped working. Temp, volts, gas, etc.. I had some bad battery cables, but got that fixed. Could this of caused my problem? I have checkd the fuses, and all are OK.
Is there some kind of circuit board on the 1982 model controling these gauges? If so how do I fix it? or other ideas??
There is a board on the back of the gauge cluster.. and you could start there. But first.. when you checked the fuse did you test on the contacts or the fuse.
Pull the fuse out and make sure the terminals are not corroded.
Hi, I am having issues with my gages on my 1982 also but I am having trouble pulling the center panel with the gages out...I have removed the 4 screws at the top and the radio **** pieces but it still won't release. The top comes out a couple inches but seems to be caught about halfway down on both sides. Am I missing something I can't see? Thanks, John

You might be hanging up on the heater lamp... you have to be careful when you remove these, they can catch the edge of the dash pad and tear it.
Isn't there also some screws at the bottom that you have to get through in trans tunnel area? It has been a while since I have been in that area but I seem to remember some there that get overlooked quite a bit.
I have the upper section removed now thanks to some help from here. I have found that the #1,2,4,along with 7-12 pins are all showing ground when my wiring diagram only shows that pin #1 and #10 should be a ground in the 12 pin connecter on the back of the gages. Any idea what would cause this? I wouldn't think they would all be grounded. I can tell it has been worked on before so I'm sure this isn't a new problem...just new to me. Thanks for all the help!

There are nuts on the radio shafts that the ***** attach to that have to come off. It took this forum to point that out for me. I had the same issue. The top was loose but the bottom was not.
I was checking the connector with the battery still unhooked and the connector and print on the back of the gages was a mess. When I cleaned up the connector and the print on the gages then hooked the battery up they all seam to work. I'm hoping it was just a bad connection at the pin connector causing it to ground out. I'm taking it out for a drive today to see if they all work at full running temp/pressure. Even the clock works now. Thanks everyone!
I have to say this is probably your issue. The fingers from the circuit do come un-bonded and when they hit another finger all hell breaks out on your gauges.
update...all is well with the gages. all work just fine. it's showing real low oil pressure with spikes now and then to 40+ lbs so I'm sure a sending unit is next on the list. but really thanks to all that helped!!
The spikes could be a wire breaking.. since an oil pressure gauge with no input will go to max pressure. I have no way to know for sure but you should check the wire too.. just to be on the safe side.
