Pace Car Barn Find

I remember back in 1976 the morons at the helm decided that convertibles were too dangerous and outlawed them. A neighbor of mine bought ten Cadillac Eldorado verts and was going to sell them down road for a hefty profit....until they started making verts again a few years later.
Story is from memory 35 years ago but I think I got the facts straight, if wrong go ahead and correct me, he did buy the caddys though
What's that got to do with this thread ? well I don't think anyone made any real money on the 78 Pace Cars, especially if they overpaid sticker price in the first place
The Al Unser Indy Pace Car might be worth a few bucks if unchanged from race day.
I take it you are referring to the same vehicle in your first and third sentence above but according to an interorganizational memo, it was VIN 1Z8748S416658 and assigned the Pace Car mule duties.
It also means if the tag is not on the windshield pillar, number would have to be confirmed from VIN derivative on the motor or tranny.
PS...sent the PF 25 photo
Didn't bother looking it up.The Indy museum Pace Car IS this one with the 'normal' 78 VIN.
I was surprised to see no tag on the window piller, but it WAS the 'mule' car supplied to the track for early use. It had dual exhaust but other than that nothing you could see(they kept the hood down)
There were also a couple of tags on it saying "for educational purposes only"
I got a pic of one from under the car I'll try to find.
Got the pic, thanks.
