Default 82 Vette-Center Console Removal Question

Hi,

I have to replace the starter interrupt relay and neutral safety switch on my 82 vette-Both are located under the center console. Does the center console have to be removed or can I access the areas by peeling back the carpeted side panels? Thanks

The console side panels can't be "peeled back". They are held on by three screws in each one. The screws are "hidden" in the carpet. Feel around in the carpet and you will find the screws. Once you remove the screws, you can remove the console sides and you will have access under the console. I can't say if you will be able remove the neutral safety switch or relay, but you have to remove the sides to remove the console shift plate anyway.

Sides are carpet glued to particle board. Bend the particle board too much and it will break. Some have made a replacement from a sheet of aluminum. I replaced mine with leather covered particle board.
