This is a new one on me...I didn't even know this existed before tonight.
I'm hearing a little hissing in the cockpit, figured I knocked a vacuum line loose somewhere while I was working on the car. Well, didn't see anything obvious, but when putting the top up I notice the rear plenum air door is open. Don't think it's been open before because I would have noticed it.
What controls this door and what does it do? Checked the AIM, found it has an actuator so I guess vacuum operates it, but the manual was vague on hose routing and controls of the door? Anyone know anymore about this?
Thanks...
Tom
It's part of the "Astro" ventilation. The door is a vent controlled by the heater dial. Sounds like the vacum line has either come off (check on the actuator, mine is on the rt. side) or broken.
Good luck
Todd
So, in order for the door to close, it has to be on heat? Mine is always open, so it lets water in when it rains, or when I wash the car. I too would like to know more about this. I looked in the back, and it looks as if it used to have some sort of a manual operation in the center of the car- for holes in the plastic in front. Any idea what this would be for, and if it is stock for some control?
The rear deck vent flappers are contolled by a small vacuum can located on the passenger side right next to the passenger side flappre. The vacuum line runs from there along the console to the heater controls. When the thumb wheel is pushed to hot, the doors are supposed to close and of course open when the wheel is turned to cool. Yours is the only one I've ever heard about that actually worked.
