Sanderson's collectors are horrible. They are not a smooth transition at all.
They merge the tubes very abruptly which is going to cost you power.
They also call their cast iron manifolds “headers”!
Shorty block hugger type are for early rods w/ narrow frames. The guys who use them on C3 complain about melting motor mounts.
Note also how better shorty headers pull the center pipes forward so they are more equal length.
I may just go with the system you got. I've got longtubes on my firebird, and on the street, they have given me more than just 1 bad day with how low they hang. I think shorties are the way to go especially with low riders like vettes. I know we are leaving some power on the table, but I'd rather have that than the busted collector blues.
You can get 3/4 length headers that are much better than shorties, don't go low & are good for about 400hp.
I have had the full length headers even before Walker bought them, formed Dynomax & no problems.
Dynamax ceramic long tubes 1 5/8" on my 81 with magnaflow mufflers and a X pipe. No fit issues on installation. Never have scraped the pavement with the collectors. 3 years on the car now and the ceramic coating shows no sign of wear.
