Default Removing Rally Wheel Center Cap

Greetings,

I wanted to paint my wheels from my 1968 427 vette, and while i was able to remove the outside chrome part of the rally wheel, i was not and could not figure out how to remove the center cap. I'm sure it's really easy, but since i've fortunatly never had to change a tire for this vette, I got stumped...please help! Thanks!

Just get a grip with your fingers around the outer edge and bend it loose.

Get a plastic pry bar and pry them loose. They should just pop off.

I use a paint can opener. True story. Also works fine for multi-clip trim rings, but not so well on original 4 clips.

Stick the ends of fingers from both hands at the top of the center cap trim ring. Pull or leverage your fingertips to pry off the cap. If it won't come off that way, you will need a plastic or wooden pry tool. DO NOT USE A METAL TOOL, as the ring metal is soft and a metal tool will put dents/dings into the surface. A plastic or wooden pry will not.

Once you get the cap off, you can 'massage' it a little to make it easier to remove by hand (if you so choose).

There are 3 bumps that hold the cap on , 12 oclock , 5 & 7 , grab the cap at 2:30 and pull,it will come off with no damage.

FYI, this orientation is with the valve stem at 6 o'clock. I have found the easiest way to get my cap off is to get my fingertips under the cap directly opposite the valve stem (12 o'clock in this analogy) and pull. Pops right off.

Put a towel or something soft on the ground so that when the cap flies off after a hard pull, it will have a soft landing.
